HOW TO MEASURE FOR SHOES
We have listed two different ways to measure fit.
First:
We love the ease of this inside shoe measurement and use it for our store quite often for vintage shoes.
Cut a long piece of thin cardboard and make a V point at the end. Insert cardboard into a shoe, keeping it smooth from bulging. Bend cardboard at the back of the heel and mark the spot at the heel.
Take a tape measure or ruler from the toe point of the cardboard to the back heel. Compare measurements to other shoes you own.
It is also essential to take other measurements, such as width and height.
Second:
Take a sheet of paper, tape paper on the floor, and place your foot firmly on the form with your leg bent slightly. Your shin should be in front of your ankle.
Now trace the outline of your foot. Use a tape measure to draw a square around the foot. Use the tape and measure from top to bottom of the square. This number is mainly your shoe size. Now measure your foot's width by measuring in-between the lines from left to right of the square top.
After, subtract 3/16th of an inch from both numbers to accommodate the outline drawing. Now, you can find your shoe size on a shoe chart. Remember, there are different sizes in different countries.
It is essential to leave enough room to accommodate toes since the shoe front juts inward; pointy shoes are known for this. Measure feet carefully!
Shoe Height
Place the shoe on a flat surface, such as a table, for an accurate measurement. Find a tape measure or ruler long enough to accommodate the shoe. Take the tape measure or ruler and extend it vertically from the heel cap to reach the top of the shoe. End the measurement at the highest point on the back of the heel.
Measure the back of the shoe from the bottom of the heel to the top of the shoe. Measure the inside shoe from the toe to the back of the heel. Measure the shoe at the widest point of the sole front.
Heel Height
Measure the back of the heel, from where it connects to the shoe, from the top to the heel cap at the bottom of the shoe with a ruler. End the measurement at the highest point of the heel.
Platform Height
Measure from the bottom of the sole to where it connects to the shoe at the top of the platform.

VINTAGE MEASUREMENTS
Please remember that all items are vintage or new, never worn, and stored with care. Some things are 20 to 75 years old or more. We note in every item description all flaws and any damage, such as loose and missing seam stitches or missing hook and eye closures, age spots, and discoloration. Things could happen as vintage clothes age, even if the item is stored well. It is still a unique and one-of-a-kind piece. Do not hesitate to contact or email us with a question you may have before your purchase.
If we find something missed upon another inspection of clothing, we disclose it in the listing immediately.
HudsonFlowVintage clothing and accessories are priced relatively by era, condition, trend, and style. Most apparel sold is in near-mint or mint condition or has an unnoticeable or minor flaw. Some items are never worn.
MEASUREMENT ADVICE
Please remember to add one inch or more to prevent bulge for older vintage items and to keep seam strength intact.
If unsure of your measurements, use a soft measuring tape to measure around the bust, waist, and hips. Keep the measuring tape slightly loose and not too tight to affect the measurement. Leave a little breathing room.
Vintage sizes are not comparable to contemporary sizing today. Women in the 1950s usually wore some foundation to cinch the waist or shape the bust, for example. So make sure to measure twice! Sometimes help is needed to take measurements properly.
All our garments are measured flat across. We have doubled the measurements for the bust, waist, hips, and some other parts of the garment for those who like to see the exact measurements.
Please remember that computer screens and lighting can show colors differently! We have tried to be as accurate as possible with color descriptions. In some photos, we have brighter lighting to reveal details of any flaws in the item. The images depict the most accurate color of the garment.

HOW TO MEASURE GARMENTS
There are two different types of measurements below.
Body Measurement:
Bust
For bust size, measure around your chest at the fullest point of your bra cup. Make sure to go under your arms, not around them!
Natural Waist
Measure around the smallest part of your waistline with one finger between your body and the measuring tape.
Hips
Stand with your heels together, keeping the tape straight and parallel to the floor. Measure around the fullest part of your hips.
Flat Table Measurement:
Lay the garment on a flat, even surface.
Shoulders
Measure from one shoulder seam to the other shoulder seam. If the shoulder seam does not exist, measure the natural shoulder length where the actual shoulder would be.
Vintage pieces can purposely have a smaller shoulder width. Use this as a guide when taking measurements.
Bust
Measure from underarm to underarm where the sleeve starts. For the final measurement, multiply this number by 2. (2 x 17 = 34) inches.
Waist
Measure the smallest part of the waist to the other side. Multiply by 2 for the final number. (2 x 12 = 24) inches.
Sleeve length
Two ways of taking measurements. We generally measure from the way of the first one.
First:
Measure the inseam from the underarm pit of the sleeve to the sleeve's hem. Measure the outer seam from the top of the sleeve to the sleeve's hem.
Second:
Measure by placing one end of the measuring tape at the side of the neck. Run tape over your arm and let it hang down where you would like the sleeve to end.
Dress Length
Stand with your heels together, keeping the tape straight and perpendicular to the floor. Measure from the height of your shoulders down the length of your back.
Skirt and Pants Measurements:
Waist
Measure flat across the waist to the other side. Multiply this number by 2. (2 x 13= 26) inches.
Hips
Measure from the widest point of the hips to the other side. Multiply by 2 for a final measurement as above.
Inseam Pants
Find a pair of pants that fit you well and measure down the inseam from the crotch seam to the bottom hem of the pants leg. Round off the number to the nearest 1/2" to get your inseam length.
Outer Seam Pants
It is measured from the side of the pants seam to the hem.
It is helpful to compare lengths to a pair of pants you already own.
Pants Rise
The pant's front and back rise is measured from the top of the pants to the crotch seam.
